you have everything while owning nothing

we watch the sunset together. it is as much mine as it is yours. neither of us can keep it to ourselves. thus we appreciate it’s beauty.

knowing you cannot hold something forever lets you truly enjoy it.

only through understanding the temporary existence of things can one actually love.

what is permanent does not invoke love. we suffer when we crave the permanent and the unchanging. for the permanent and unchanging is actually lifeless.

there was the blissful hour of quiet at park bench while I watched the squirrels.

there was the miso soup the girl cooked for me when I was locked out of my apartment.

there was the volleyball match we played at the beach with people we just met.

there was the time we slow danced to a short ballad. the final note was played. like time, we let each other’s hands slip away.
